Creative Expression & mental healthcare

I am an artist and an expressive arts therapist. I believe that the path to mental health, physical health, and joy is found through the authentic expression of the self. I use tools and techniques to help you explore your thoughts and feelings and together we will paint, sculpt, write, and dance our way toward your goals. I strive to hold a safe and accepting space for folks from all walks of life and of all identities.

Writing

Writing is a powerful tool. Many therapists and individuals use journaling to process thoughts and feelings. While journaling is generative and meaningful for some, it can be difficult for others. In my practice I use journaling as well as many other writing techniques, forms, and prompts to explore deeper meaning and emotion. I am particularly fond of Oulipian constraints which channel the writer into different ways of thinking. Writing lends itself to expression of our personal narrative which is developed as we move through life and grow. Often times trauma, gas lighting, and avoidance or fear distort our narrative. I see writing as a powerful tool to reclaim our truth and our stories and to better understand ourselves and others.

Art Making

I am an artist and a maker. I draw and paint. I sculpt and craft. I have been a soap maker, a painter, a dancer, a leather crafter, a writer, a sculptor, a jewelry maker, and more! I love to learn new skills and am always exploring new materials. This is who I am and when I am not making and moving I am restless and uncomfortable. I believe art making is critical to all of us as human beings. I believe it helps us access and process our feelings and thoughts through our bodies. I believe that this act of creation allows us to access solutions that we had not yet considered possible. Movement

I have a special place in my heart for movement and dance. I believe moving our bodies with comfort and joy is the most powerful healing tool available to us. This includes the physical act of art making. In my practice I utilize somatic interventions which means that I work with you to identify where emotion lives in your body and together we explore those sensations with curiosity and grace. This may mean that we make small movements with pencil or clay. It may mean you are ready to dance or draw big sweeping gestures. We can learn to release tension through facial movements or through hand movements with clay that activate the vagas nerve and help us to move into our parasympathetic (calmer and quieter) nervous system.

Art therapy

Online or in-person, this is a combination of talk therapy and art therapy. Typically, meetings are weekly or bi-weekly. I offer sliding scale based on need. I see children and teens (when appropriate) and adults. Get started with a free consultation to see if we are a good fit.

Wellness Coaching

Online or in-person, this is a space where we work together toward goals and find creative solutions to struggles and resource you where you need it most. This is holistic work where we consider physical, mental, and environmental wellness. This work is not psychotherapy. 18+

Creativity Coaching

This work is done online or in-person. Creativity coaching is for folks who feel stuck in their creative lives and creative output. I utilize techniques learned in my Master in Creativity Development to get you moving and creating from your authentic self. This can be purchased as a package or as individual sessions. 16+

Online and in-person. These are group educational classes and private lessons for those looking to hone making skills. Packages available and group classes posted as they become available. 18+
